Savio House is run by a catholic religious congregation called the Salesians of Don Bosco. St John Bosco (Don is a familar term by which we know him by. It is the Italian word for 'Father' as we may call a priest) was an Italian priest who lived in the nineteenth century and he dedicated his life to working for the benefit of young people. From his work grew a new family in the church, the Salesians, and now there are about 16,000 Salesian priests and brothers who follow Don Bosco and have dedicated their lives to this same work for young people. Five of these Salesians live here at Savio House But that is not all. There are tens of thousand more people of all ages and all backgrounds who, inspired by Don Bosco, try to work with and for young people in the same Salesian Spirit. This is the Salesian Family. On these pages you can found a little about the history of the Salesian Family, the life of
our founder Don Bosco and some information about the Salesian Family and its work today. There is also
a short biography of our patron, St Dominic Savio. |
